Outdoor Activities

Tennis

Located within the enchanting original walled kitchen garden, the setting is simply uplifting, win or lose! (We have heard one or two corks popping from behind the wall…)

River Fishing

1 mile of single bank is available for 2 to 3 rods per day. The River Dee is famous for grayling and there are salmon in season. Licences can be obtained from the local Post Office, which is 1½ miles from Crogen. Fishing rods and private tuition are available on request from Trevor Heyliger.

Clay Pigeon Shooting

Feel free to enjoy the Dee for beautiful riverside walks, taking in the plentiful bird life and stunning scenery.

Watersports

Some of the UK’s finest white water rafting is found only 15 minutes away (Grade 3/4 water) at Canolfan Tryweryn 01678 521083. The Tryweryn is a dam-released river so water is often flowing when other British rivers are dry, thus producing a unique year round white water venue.

White Water Rafting at the lower Tryweryn & River Dee - raft the steep chutes and boulder strewn rapids of the river Tryweryn whose continuous fast flowing white water leave no time for preparation! You can also take on the championship course in a Tandem Kayak or descend the river without a boat in a canyoning trips!

There are also lake water sports available at Bala. Bala Watersports 01678 521059  has highly skilled and qualified instructors for complete beginners, those with some limited experience, and more advanced courses. The activities on offer including: canoeing/kayaking, paddleboarding, climbing/abseiling, windsurfing, sailing, archery, camp craft, raft building, powerboating, gorge walking, and white water rafting.

Golf

The challenging courses of both Bala and Llangollen are only a short drive away.

Situated on the west coast of Britain covering 823 square miles of diverse landscapes, Snowdonia National Park is a living working area, home to over 26,000 people. As well as being the largest National Park in Wales, Snowdonia boasts the highest mountain in England and Wales, and the largest natural lake in Wales, as well as a wealth of picturesque villages like Betws y Coed and Beddgelert. Snowdonia is an area steeped in culture and local history, where more than half its population speak Welsh.  

Llangollen Steam Railway

A mainly steam hauled Heritage Railway Line starting at Llangollen Station located beside the Dee River Bridge in Llangollen Town, the 7½ mile track follows the River Dee upstream to the village of Carrog. Started in 1975 by a group of enthusiasts who saw the potential for a scenic heritage line through the Dee Valley, their original vision grew into what you see today.   Younger enthusiasts may even get a ride with Thomas the Tank Engine!

National Trust
