With so much commercial shooting available, why should you choose Crogen over other shoots?
Our guests say that what sets us apart is the way we run our day: members of the Robertson family is involved at every stage, from under-keeper to hosting, from driving to catering, from beating to picking-up. Rather than use a shoot room for main days, we throw open the doors of our home – for both lunch in our dining room and tea in the family kitchen.
Our heritage
Game shooting at Crogen is concentrated over 2,500 acres of stunning Welsh countryside within 210 miles of Marble Arch. Shooting has been at the very heart of Crogen Estate for over 150 years, making it one of North Wales’ most established shoots. Crogen, which dates back to the 1300’s, was subsequently redesigned as a hunting lodge in the 1830’s, together with the plantation of numerous hard woods specifically for shooting.
In 2012, the Crogen shoot returned to the Robertson family after 43 years being let on a commercial only basis. During that time, thousands of individuals experienced Crogen, most returning year on year. Our emphasis is now on combining excellent shooting with warm, family-run hospitality for both small and large house parties.
What can we offer you?
With 8 bedrooms in Crogen Hall ( and a possible 9th on request), we are certain we can create the perfect atmosphere for your party, all within a mile of your first drive. We are also delighted to advise you that we do not charge any corkage on the alcohol, soft drinks and mixers that you bring for your house party.

In the evening & day after:
- a choice of either a 2 course informal supper (menu agreed prior to your stay) or
- a formal 4 course dinner (menu agreed prior to your stay)
- Alcohol to be supplied by you (no corkage charged); we have wine merchants who can deliver (Tanners in Shrewsbury, Majestic Chester)
- Mixers can be bought from us if required
- All catering supplied in-house
- Full cooked breakfast using local produceAll ingredients sourced locally as far as possible.
What is special about our shooting?
The shoot is based predominantly on hard wood plantations, with easy access, good cover, and suitable challenging terrain. The setting is, as you can see from our photographs, stunning. The shoot has some 12 drives and caters for the more experienced shots. It is a blend of the challenging high bank drives and less demanding parkland drives.

- Crogen Hall (8 bedrooms; 7 bath/shower rooms) (catering supplied)
- The Coach House, if available, (sleeps 17 in 8 twin/doubles, 1 single; 5 bath/shower rooms) (Self catering, but catering can be arranged if required)
Hosting
Our main emphasis is for you and your guests to relax and enjoy yourselves, to feel completely at home, and enjoy high levels of both standards and service. Throughout your visit to Crogen, you will be looked after by the family, who have extensive experience of shooting, corporate and private hospitality.
Dogs
They are always welcome, but must be kept in their owners’ cars please.
We have dogs of our own, and if we added a team of full blooded visiting canines into the fray, chaos would undoubtedly ensue…
